Anthony Barr's Player Profile

As of Dec. 16th. Anthony Barr was the Defensive Player in the Draft; maybe even the top player overall. A bold statement? Yes. The question is, what makes him great? Barr is one of those rare, special talents who swallows opposing players up when he tackles them. He does it as a pass rusher. He does it vs the run.

Barr did not even play defense until last year. In 2012, his first year as a 3-4 OLB, Barr led the PAC 12 with 13 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, 4 forced fumbles, 5 passes defensed & 5 QB hurries.

Barr hits like a truck and swallows the guy with the ball with his long body much like the great Lawrence Taylor. No, I'm not saying he is L.T. by any means. He would need a long successful career and a bust in Canton to earn those kind of accolades. For now, let's focus on what we do know. He plays fast and furious while showing tremendous range at his position. His style will lead to turnovers. His motor will be contagious, and his versatility will allow defensive coordinators to use him in a number of creative ways to confuse offenses.

Also, Barr is as good vs the pass as almost any big man I have seen. Anthony Barr is truly special. Did we mention we like this kid? To maximize his potential, he needs to add 20-25 pounds of muscle, but his frame will have no problems handling the weight while still maintaining his speed. This will allow him to anchor better vs the run.

2013 - In twelve games, Barr has earned the following statistics:
20 Tackles For Losses (109 Yards Lost)
43 Solo & 20 Assisted Tackles (5.3 Per Game)
10 Sacks
6 Forced Fumbles

These stats clearly show, they avoided him when possible. Jim Mora Jr. does not play guys who don't work hard, and that is why we love Anthony Barr as the one of the top picks in the NFL 2014 Draft.
