Sam Montgomery's Player Profile

Montgomery is a natural defensive end, but he can also line up at the "hybrid" position as a stand up outside linebacker. At 6'4" 245 lbs, with high 4.5-4.60 40-range, he is strong and can get off the ball faster than most ends in the country. His motor is non-stop, and he has the ability to get off the ball and get around tackles with his strength. He’s a lock in the first round. He goes 100% every play and his pursuit is relentless. He is still a bit raw and will definitely add weight to his frame, which will only increase his productivity. He has all the tools needed to make an instant impact. He uses his power and speed to bull rush tackles and come off the edge. At the next level, he'll have to add moves because offensive tackles will be as agile as him.

He does have negative attributes as does every player. At times he'll come off the ball and become vertical which will eliminate him from the play, but that's fixable. He was at times overshadowed by teammate and future first round pick Barkevious Mingo. Mingo might be a little more polished and natural at the defensive end position but Montgomery will be right there with his teammate on draft day.
