Luke Kuechly's Player Profile

This is a very good draft for ILBs with Burfict, Teo and Kuechly. Luke is more new school and Burfict and Teo are old school. Coming from his days as a FS in high school Kuelchy is a cereberal player and his biggest strength is knowing where to be to make a play. It is almost like a broken record that Luke always seems to rack up 10+ tackles every game and he also plays the pass very well. I like him more as a 3-4 ILB because his smarts you can play around with in more schemes. Luke is going to be a guy that never comes of the field, he will be strong against the run and pass and will play special teams for you. Luke is very tough and durable, smart, good teammate, character. He has a good chance to be the 1st ILB off the board, even though he will not test out as well as Burfict and Teo at the combine he can do a lot of things well.

Luke doesn’t have much experience rushing the passer. He doesn’t have as good of a burst as some of the other prospects but makes up for it with his instincts and the fact that he doesn’t overrun plays. At 6 ft 3 235 you may be able to run and make him struggle to shed blockers.

Between Burfict, Teo and Kuechly it really depends on what flavor you like in an ILB. Luke is cereberal, Vontaze is nasty, and Manti is in strong and consistent. They are all just 3 yrs removed from high school and all have been studs since they arrived to college and can start right away in the NFL and profile to have good careers. I hope Luke can stay in the New England area because I think he would be a good fit with Bellicheck and will meet a need. For NFL comparison I think he is a cross between James Laurinaitis and Nick Barnett.
