LaMichael James' Player Profile

LaMichael James in an electric player with the ball in his hands. He has good vision, a great burst and change of direction quickness, decent hands and breakaway speed to take it the distance any time he touches the ball. Playing in Oregon’s up tempo spread out system has been a perfect fit for LaMichael and has helped him reach all American level status. His greatest strength is when he has the ball in space the ability to make his opponent miss than take it to the house. If a defensive player misses an assignment James has the vision to see the opening and the quickness and speed to make his opponent pay and take it all the way to the house. LaMichael is what you call a homerun threat, you have to pay attention to what he is doing. He is versatile enough to contribute in the passing game and special teams as a return man.

What you see is what you get with LaMichael. He is a speedy, elusive homerun threat who at only 5ft9 190lbs is probably only thought of as a situational player. That doesn’t mean he cant be very valuable in the NFL but because of his size and style of play he is not an every down player. He is not a natural inside runner, he doesn’t run behind his pads, durability issues are a concern as well as a few off field issues.

LaMichael James is falling in line with many pac 10 alums that have very similar style of play. Reggie Bush, Jahvid Best, Jaquizz Rogers are all similar players who are carving out roles as change of pass, game breaking players. It is a 2 back league in the NFL now and LaMichael James certainly has a place in the NFL just don’t expect him to reach the same individual success as he has had in college.
