Kellen Moore's Player Profile

Kellen Moore is going to be a tough prospect to project. He has had incredible success in college and been the most valuable player for Boise State for the last 3 years that they have been a national power, but will come with obvious knocks for being a small prospect. What cannot be denied is Kellen Moore’s intelligence at the QB position. Being a coach’s son he really knows the game inside and out and even as a college player he is a coach on the field and that translates to his incredibly high completion % and QB rating. Kellen can audible against the defense and make reads and execute at a high level, even when they are playing against top notch competition his statistics do not drop off much. When you watch him play you can see that he is a step ahead of the defense. He is almost Manning, Brady and Brees like in how he can think the game of football. Many doubt about his NFL prospects but nobody doubts that he could be a brilliant offensive coach some day. Kellen has been studying playbooks since before he started high school and his passion for the game is evident in the success he has had. What I like about him is that he has a quick release, he establishes good timing and tremendous accuracy on intermediate routes and his efficiency in this area opens up big plays down the field where he is also accurate dropping in deep passes where his wrs can make the play. He throws great lob and touch passes and is phenomenal in the red zone. He is a clutch player, great leader, he spreads the ball around and is an absolute gym rate. I would not want to play Kellen Moore in a game of Madden.

His negatives are obvious. Probably 5ft11 185lbs, his measurables do not look like a draftable player and I am sure some GMs will not consider drafting just based on his size and pedestrian level athleticism. He will not make plays with his legs. I have not seen him consistently throw the deep in and out routes that are so foundational in the NFL. On 3rd and longs he may be predictable. His release is quick but it is a little low.

I really like Moore as an NFL prospect. He knows his weaknesses and knows how to compensate for them. With his pre snap smarts and his knack for keeping his timing with his wrs makes defenses react to him rather than him reacting to defenses. He is almost like a surgeon in how he sees the field, with his vision and unique arm talent on timing and touch passes he will make plays other qbs don’t make, which makes up for the throws he doesn’t make. Also, he is a winner no doubt. I think a common NFL comparison will be Ty Detmer but I really believe Moore can some day QB a playoff team. I liken him to a more diminutive Ryan Fitzpatrick.
