Cameron Heyward's Player Profile
Cameron is the son of the former NFL 1st round pick, Craig ‘Ironhead’ Heyward. Started 8 games as a freshman, making 33 tackles, 10 TFL, 2.5 sacks with 1 forced fumble. In 2008 he started 13 games recording 36 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3 sacks and 1 FF. As a Junior his numbers improved to 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 10 TFL. This past season his sack numbers dropped to 3.5, to go along with 48 tackles, 13 TFL and 1 INT.In 2000 he won the Jack Stephenson Award for outstanding defensive lineman. Has good size, strength and athleticism. Good agility and instincts. A relentless pass rusher. Has heavy, active hands, ability to shed blocks. Can handle double teams, and if he can’t get through a lane, he can disrupt the passing lanes. Has a strong upper-body.
Doesn’t have great speed and range. Can’t always get around the corner due to lack of speed. Can be inconsistent with his effort. Needs to work on, and increase his pass rush moves.
