Taylor Mays Player Profile
Mays was tempted to enter the 2009 NFL draft, in the end decided to return to USC for his senior season. In 2006 Mays started 12 of 13 games, recording 63 tackles with 3 interceptions, and was named Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year. He followed up in 2007 by starting all 13 games, recording 65 tackles with 1 INT and fumble recovery, and was named 1st Team All-Pac-10. In his junior season he was a consensus 1st Team All-American and a finalist for best defensive back after making 53 tackles.Mays has excellent size, strength, and speed. He’s quick on the ball, with good range and ability to change directions. His size and athletic ability will most likely get him drafted in the top half of the 1st round, but there are still some questions marks surrounding him.
Mays doesn’t have the best tackling technique, and can be over-aggressive on the ball. Some have wondered about his maturity level and his football instincts.
