Strengths: Rashard Mendenhall has a lethal combination of size, strength and speed. He has prototypical size for an NFL running back. Although there have been questions about his straight-line speed, he seems to have silenced his critics with a 79 yard breakaway run against USC in the Rose Bowl game. He is very tough between the tackles due to his great size and strength. Hits the hole with great burst and acceleration. Possesses great vision and cutback ability. Finishes runs with great power and leg drive, allowing him to the tough extra yardage. Surprisingly elusive for his size.
Weaknesses: Can he be a 3rd down back? Although he has very good hands; his pass-blocking skills and route-running are still an area of concern. Mendenhall came into college a highly touted recruit but played sparingly in his first two years.
Projection: A 1st round talent. Rashard Mendenhall should be the 3rd or 4th running back taken going in the mid to late 1st round.
