Jake Long
Ht/Wt: 6-7/313 lbs
Position: OT
School: Michigan
Class: Senior

Jake Long's Player Profile

Can play left or right tackle, and has great strength and size to step right into the pro game. He isn't the fastest out there, but his great reach and wingspan and good quickness will help. He will start right away, and if he bulks up, he could make a pro-bowl impact in just his first year.

Profile courtesy of leisurelasvegas.net Positives: Outstanding size, muscular with a thick build, long arms. Plays with a killer instinct and does not slack off. Alert and instinctive blocker. Exceptional drive blocker with great leg drive. Good technician who understands leverage. Bends from the knees. Very strong hand punch and knows how to use it. Negates the bull rush. Good blocker while in motion - knows who to pick up and drives the defender backwards. Dominant short area blocker. Incredible consistency to his game. Rarely commits a penalty. Mature with outstanding work ethic. A leader.

Negatives: Is not an elite pass protector. Must use effort, reach and positioning to seal off edge rushers. Footwork and foot quickness are only adequate. Gets caught overextending and plays off-balance at times. Isn't very agile. Lags a bit when asked to block outside the short area.

Outlook: Long projects as a franchise right tackle. His intangibles are through the roof. His name is rarely heard during a game which is a good thing. He has the potential to become one of the top run blockers in the NFL in the near future. An NFL ready player, Long is a natural right tackle and although he can play left tackle his ability is maximized as a right tackle.
