DeSean Jackson
Ht/Wt: 6' 0"/166 lbs
Position: WR
School: California
Class: Junior

DeSean Jackson's Player Profile

The top WR on the board. He isn't too big, but has great speed, the ability to get downfield, has the strength and ability to gain yardage after the catch and could really thrive in the right system. Look for him to start right away and should he be the #3 option on offense this year, he could put up some strong numbers.

Overall: Some scouts see Jackson's marginal size is a bigger drawback than others, and Jackson has also been inconsistent so far during his junior season. However, most of his inconsistency has stemmed from an early-season thumb sprain. Much like Ted Ginn (Dolphins; No. 9 overall in 2007), Jackson's explosiveness as a receiver and return specialist should make him a very attractive prospect in the top half of the first round. I believe Jackson is a more natural receiver than Ginn and eventually will make the bigger impact on offense in the NFL. Bottom line: it's rare to find an athlete with Jackson's natural quickness and athleticism. He also has great hands, and all around is just a threat to any defense. Jackson would be a great pick for any team that needs a wide receiver, badly.

Strengths: Really fast, good hands, runs good routes, and is a wizard at kick returns.

Weakness: His durability (ankle, and thumb.) He also needs to get a little stronger.

Positives: Ridiculous athlete who utilizes all of his athleticism on the football field. Runs like a gazelle. Gets off the line extremely quickly. Quick in and out of his breaks. Fluid and shows little stiffness. Possesses good fundamentals... comes back to the ball. Shows the awareness to find soft spots in the defense. Excellent deep ball skills and makes the over the should grab look easy. Good balance and body control. YAC machine. Sure handed.

Negatives: Needs to refine his route running. Durability might become a problem in the NFL due to his small frame, as might his blocking ability. Could find himself having timing problems with his quarterback in the NFL.

Outlook: DeSean Jackson has the potential to be an outstanding NFL wide receiver. He has legit wide receiver skills and isn't just a raw athlete. Can become a top return man. The speed and explosion he brings to the table are off the charts as he plays as fast as he times. Has very high potential and will likely be drafted earlier than expected.
