Zion Young's Player Profile
Zion Young is a long, athletic hybrid defender whose profile is built on length, bend, and the ability to attack the quarterback from multiple alignments along the line. He can line up as a hand?in?dirt edge or a stand?up linebacker, using his flexibility and twitch to win off the line and then convert speed to power with strong hands and a relentless motor. His ability to set the edge in the run game and still threaten the pocket in passing situations gives him upside as a three?down edge type in a modern defense.Strengths: His biggest strengths are his length and bend around the edge, which allow him to turn the corner and stay in the quarterback’s lap without getting straightened, and his motor and ability to sustain pressure, which make him a disruptive presence even on reps where he does not finish with a sack.
Weaknesses: His biggest weaknesses are his inconsistent hand?usage and technique, which can lead to shortened rushes when he fails to keep his chest clean, and his need for better gap discipline, as he can overrun plays and create cutback lanes when he over?pursues.
Walt - Walter Football- January 20th: "Zion Young has good size and length. There’s plenty of upside."
