Rueben Bain
Ht/Wt:6' 3"/275 lbs
Position: EDGE
School: Miami
Class: Junior

Rueben Bain Jr's Player Profile

Bain came to Miami as a high?school legend in Florida, bringing huge sack numbers and a reputation for domination at the prep level. He translated that early into college success, earning ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He wins with a mix of heavy?hand punches, strong bend around the edge, and the ability to convert speed into power without losing leverage. Even though his frame is a bit short for a classic hand?in?dirt edge, evaluators like how he uses pad level, hand technique, and a nonstop motor to control the line of scrimmage against both the run and the pass.

Strengths: His biggest strengths are his explosive first?step quickness and his advanced, violent hand usage, both of which allow him to disrupt tackles immediately off the snap and create consistent pressure.

Weaknesses: His biggest weaknesses are his relatively short arms and a frame that makes him more of a leverage?based athlete than a pure length edge, as well as a tendency at times to lean on a strong bull?rush foundation when more nuanced counter?move progression would help him as a pass?rusher at the NFL level.

Mel Kiper - ESPN - January 21st: "But even with all those A-level traits, it's actually Bain's hustle that really stands out to me. He never takes a play off and fires at the ball on every play. His arms are shorter than most scouts prefer, but there's so much to like with his game."

Walt - Walter Football- January 20th: "Rueben Bain was very productive as a freshman and has a ton of upside."

Gordon McGinness - PFF - January 19th: "His 87.1 PFF run-defense grade ranked seventh among all FBS edge defenders this past season, while he placed second at the position with 80 quarterback pressures. His size should allow him to kick inside in obvious passing situations, too, giving him the type of versatility that can maximize his impact."

Josh Edwards - CBS Sports - January 19th: "Rueben Bain Jr. is a powerful rusher with a thick lower-body build who used the College Football Playoff platform to state his case as a potential top-10 overall selection."

NFL Draft Buzz- January: "The resurrection of Rueben Bain from injury casualty to draft's potential crown jewel represents everything evaluators dream about finding."
