R Mason Thomas's Player Profile

R Mason Thomas is a long, bendy edge defender whose profile is built on athleticism, length, and the ability to attack the quarterback from wide alignments along the line. He wins with a flexible frame, strong hands, and a twitchy first step that allow him to turn the corner, stay in the quarterback’s lap, and convert speed into power without getting straightened out. His ability to play both as a traditional edge and a stand?up linebacker gives him versatility in multiple schemes that can use him on passing downs and as a hybrid defender.

Strengths: His biggest strengths are his length and bend around the edge, which allow him to threaten the pocket from wide angles while staying connected to the block, and his ability to use his hands and strength to stay rooted in contact and still finish in the backfield.

Weaknesses: His biggest weaknesses are his relatively inconsistent motor and snap?to?snap effort, as he can win some reps with pure athleticism while drifting on others, and his need for more refined pass?rush counters, as he can get stuck in one move and become predictable when he does not fully vary his plan mid?rep.

Walt - Walter Football- January 20th: "R. Mason Thomas is a speedy and dynamic edge rusher."

NFL Draft Buzz- January: "Thomas enters the NFL conversation as a pass rush specialist whose explosive first step and natural bend create immediate problems for offensive tackles, though his 240-pound frame will force teams to carefully evaluate his ability to handle every-down responsibilities.
