Monroe Freeling's Player Profile
Monroe Freeling is a long, athletic edge defender whose profile is defined by wingspan, flexibility, and the ability to bend around the corner with a quick, twitchy first step. At Georgia, he was used to pressure the quarterback from wide alignments and also slide inside on passing downs, where his length and hand technique helped him collapse the pocket and create interior disruption. His combination of size, length, and motor gives him upside as a three?down defender who can switch between edge and inside roles, especially in a scheme that asks hybrid linemen to generate pressure from multiple alignments.Strengths: His biggest strengths are his length and bend around the edge, which allow him to stay low, turn the corner, and terrorize tackles from the outside, and his ability to use his hands and upper?body power to keep his chest clean and extend through contact.
Weaknesses: His biggest weaknesses are his occasionally inconsistent motor and snap?to?snap discipline, as he can win some plays with pure athleticism but lose others when he drifts or becomes predictable, and his limited ability to anchor against double?teams, which can make him vulnerable to being washed out of the pocket in heavy?run situations.
Walt - Walter Football- January 20th: "Monroe Freeling is a reliable pass protector and a capable run blocker. He has good size and could become a left tackle in the pros."
NFL Draft Buzz- January: "The athletic foundation is undeniably impressive, but Freeling's inconsistent technique creates legitimate concerns about his immediate NFL readiness. His speed and 84-inch wingspan represent elite physical tools, yet the struggles with upper body strength and tendency to reach for blocks suggest he'll need significant development time."
