Fernando Mendoza
Ht/Wt:6' 5"/236 lbs
Position: QB
School: Indiana
Class: RS Junior

Fernando Mendoza's Player Profile

His game is built on processing, anticipation, and ball placement. He is especially effective on rhythm throws, layered passes, and concepts that isolate defenders, and he has the toughness to respond well under pressure. The main evaluation question is whether his tendency to hold the ball and take sacks will be manageable against faster NFL pass rushes.

Strengths: His two biggest strengths are is his quick decision-making and anticipation, which helps him get the ball out on time and attack tight windows with precision. He also brings excellent accuracy and touch, especially on intermediate throws and red-zone chances.

Weaknesses: His biggest weaknesses are he can drift in the pocket and take avoidable sacks when pressure arrives, which can stall drives. He is also not a true dual-threat quarterback, so he does not offer elite escape ability when plays break down.

Mel Kiper - ESPN - January 21st: "And while he doesn't have a huge arm, he can make all the necessary NFL-level throws. His ball placement is fantastic. I wouldn't consider him a dual threat, but Mendoza also has enough mobility to pick up first downs as a scrambler."

Walt - Walter Football- January 20th: "Fernando Mendoza has great size, arm strength, and accuracy. He was seen as raw entering the 2025 season, but he had a tremendous year."

Gordon McGinness - PFF - January 19th: "Heading into the College Football Playoff National Championship game, the Indiana quarterback has produced a 6.1% big-time throw rate and a 2.5% turnover-worthy play rate. Compare that to the 6.3% and 3.3% rates, respectively, that we saw from Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward in his final college season, and it’s clear that Mendoza is worthy of being drafted first overall."

Josh Edwards - CBS Sports - January 19th: "The 2026 NFL Draft is similar to 2025 in that there is only one quarterback worthy of No. 1 overall consideration. The Raiders are expected to take that player, but the real questions begin post-Fernando Mendoza selection."

NFL Draft Buzz- January: "Mendoza's tape screams West Coast quarterback who'll thrive in a timing-based passing game that values precision over power."
